Abstract
Purpose : This study finds out the change ratio of the refractive error and the reading addition of wearing progressive addition lens in Korean adults, and analyzes the correlation between the types of refractive error and reading addition. We intend to provide basic data applicable as a reference for prescription of progressive addition lens.

Methods : This study is based on the wearing progressive addition lens in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do regions from 2014 to 2018. Distance refractive error is classified into 4 types such as myopia, emmetropia, hyperopia and astigmatism by spherical equivalent, and then the correlation between e refractive error and reading addition is analyzed.

Results : The result shows that the correlation between myopia and the reading addition, between hyperopia and the reading, and correlation between astigmatism and the reading addition are shown as following r=0.070, p£¼0.010, r=0.150, p£¼0.010, and r=0.092, p£¼0.010, respectively. The correlation between refractive error and reading addition was high in the order of myopia, astigmatism, and hyperopia.

Conclusion : Presbyopia is an inevitable reality in modern society. The best way to solve the presbyopia is wearing the progressive addition lens. In Korea, the proportion of progressive addition lens wearers is relatively low compared to overseas. When prescribing progressive addition lens, based on this study, it is necessary to consider the correlation between refractive error and the reading addition. Also, it makes easier to adapt progressive addition lens and to encourage wearing the lens at the beginning of presbyopia. In addition, it is also necessary to systematically educate optometrists and the people to adapt well to progressive addition lens.
